The day for letters

“Give your very best against your samskaras, never give up; then have faith for the rest. Remember Augustine’s assurance: If we will do what we can, He can do as He wills.”

Eknath Easwaran, Bhagavad Gita for Daily Living

Letters to the editor, Feb.-March

(Letters in German are posted for the benefit of our foreign pals who read the language. Those who can’t are encouraged not to let the German letters impede your reading of all the letters here.)

Different days

Patricio,

Came across this online today and thought you'd be interested. What a

different time it was:

On March 10th, 1880, New England composer John Knowles Paine's "Spring" Symphony was premiered at Sanders Theater by the Boston Philharmonic, and warmly received by its first audience. You might even go so far as to say that the normally staid Bostonians went nuts. One critic who was present, recalled that "ladies waved their handkerchiefs, men shouted in approbation, and the highly respect John S. Dwight, arbiter in Boston of music criticism, stood in his seat frantically opening and shutting his umbrella as an expression of uncontrollable enthusiasm."

Phil Miller’s poem, “March” (http://www.poetrysheet.com/mar10.htm)

PD,

Phil Miller kicks major ass. He's got more style that a giraffe's got neck.

eKC moves into new era

patrick,

i've heard rumblings that ekc is no longer a print publication. does this free you up to do some free lance work for another publication? what do you charge?

peace

(eKC is no longer a print publication, but it is a first-rate online news magazine. Find it at http://www.kcactive.com. My monthly column, “city scalpel,” about Kansas City life and politics is always there and will continue to be. You can also find my history and travel column, for Discover Mid-America a regional Midwestern newspaper of, at the site or at http://www.discoverypub.com.)

That hat

Wazmo,

Goober and Jughead wore the same hat.

Think about it.

I don't know about you, but it really blows my mind.

I gotta get one of those hats.

Honesty rocks

i just wanted to send a quick note on your "Smoking,...." and other escapes/medications to life's challenges/temptations in the current issue of eKC.

i found your wide-open honesty EXEMPLARY, and so probably able to challenge lots of us to look at how we too do/or have participated in the same....now into Lent w/ a sense of lament and loss. I thank you for the blatant and humble honesty---more of this does our country (world) wonders...especially if we could get it out of those who Should be leading us!!!

Wiedervereinigung?

Einstweilen liebe Grüße an alle

Ivo

News from Shari Elf, forcer of goodness (http://www.sharielf.com)

Hello Patrick,

New songs have arrived from Neblung Price! "Beach Chair Song." Thanks, guys! I love it. And Tom in Boulder, CO has also sent in two great songs!

I haven't had so much fun in a long time. And I like to have fun.

I put up some more song samples on the tribute page: http://www.sharielf.com/news.html

New clips from Tom Bartling in Colorado (Tom used to be my room mate when I moved back to Maui from San Francisco. My brother Mike and his musician friends had a spare room in their house. I have to say those were some fun and goofy roommates).

Nichole Fromm's lovely violin solo version of I'm Taking Your Stuff is also now posted for all to hear its amazingness.

And a special offering by me, Shari: Stardust Aquarius in its full 1:50 minutes.

well, that's my email for today.

and have a lovely day.

Shari

Nachrichten aus Ruwer

Hallo miteinander!

Stefan (Schwieni)

Thanks for the memories

Patrick -- You *HAVE* to check this out!!!

A short conversation

Lee,

While the poem was good, I took much more inspiration from the fact that Morrison and Kazantzakis were aged before they made much of themselves as writers. As each day passes, and I lay my tired ass down for an afternoon nappy, I think about not having published a book yet (though not for lack of trying).

Thanks for the good word on the poom. I had a long phone talk--though I

wouldn't call it a conversation--with the man whose allegedly my father last night. Man, some things we have to pass through on our way to the grave...

Patrick

--------------

Rev,

The important thing is to live well as well as writing well. I think you've done some remarkable living, walking man. Art is long but life is short, after all. This coming from a guy in his 40th year who is similarly unpublished book-wise (not that I've really been pushing myself lately). We can call ourselves The Late Bloomers.

Lee

You’re glad to see me, I can tell (http://www.poetrysheet.com/feb18.htm)

Good scheet today. Laughed loud at the open fly in the prose piece. Loved the poem, “eaten under hot sun, bike propped against a knee”

Schoene brief!

hi patrick,

vielen dank fuer deinen lieben brief.

that is fuckin' important, dude (and nobody may know this as well as you do).

freuen ;-)

I found the lines for this poem on the Web statistics page of patrickdobson.com. The finished poem contains only word-for-word phrases people used in search engines, the results of which brought them to the page.
